Right rear Red tail light
« on: July 25, 2007, 02:46:35 PM »
The right rear red tail light does not turn on when the headlights are on, unless the key is turned to the intermediate(accesory) position. While the engine is running the light will not come on.
The signal works fine on that side and all other lights are functional except the right rear side red marker light.

Hi Tom,

On the tail lamp, first thing is to check the wiring for proper connections and grounds.  It sounds almost as if the ground wiring may be mixed-up and whatever circuit it is connected to only gets completed with the ignition on.  Power side, the light would come on once the ignition were on, even if the light switch was off.  A likely suspect in that area would be the the leads to the fuel pump.

Even before checking the wiring on the side marker, use a meter to make sure the lamp operates.  You might have damaged contacts to the bulb, corroded wiring inside the socket or frayed insulation inside the boot where the wires exit the lamp assembly. Any of which would not allow it to work.

I hope that helps you.  Good luck.
