Headlight Switch
« on: April 24, 2021, 11:36:14 AM »
This may be a long shot, but I inherited a 1975 MGB. Could you give me some possible solutions for a problem I am having?

Anytime I turn on the headlight switch, the fuel pump and ignition system are activated. So after starting the car, if I turn the headlights on, and then turn the key completely off and remove it, the car will run until I shut off the light switch.

Have any suggestions?

It might be as simple as faulty fuse box wiring.  This is the way the fuse box SHOULD be:

Forward side (right side as you’re looking over the fender):
Top    Red/Green
Two    Blank
Three White
Four   Brown

Rear side (left side as you’re looking over the fender):
Top    Red pair
Two    Red pair
Three Several greens, perhaps paired
Four   Purple

If you have other wire colors or homemade wiring on the fusebox, send me a picture.

Hope this helps!
